How's everything going?

As an expert of GIS systems, I was wondering whether you can help me on a matter. I am currently looking at which GIS system would be most advisable to purchase, or in fact whether I should just use QGIS.

I am concerned with the functionality level, satabase capability, programming support (& customisation) data formats support, user interface, output functions, expansion possibilities and maintenance & upgrade costs. I would be really grateful for your thoughts. Any advice is appreciated.
