QGIS Grants #11: Call for Grant Proposals 2026

Dear QGIS Community,

We are very pleased to announce that this year’s round of grants is now available. The call is open to anybody who wants to make a contribution to QGIS funded by our grant fund, subject to the call conditions outlined in the application form.

This year’s budget is €40k and the deadline for the proposals is in four weeks, on Monday, 13 April 2026. Here’s the full timeline:

Timeline

  • 2026-03-16: Call for proposals (4 weeks)
  • 2026-04-13: QEP discussion period (2 weeks)
  • 2026-04-27: Writing discussion summaries (1 week)
  • 2026-05-04: Voting starts (2 weeks)
  • 2026-05-18: Publication of results
  • — 6 months of project work —
  • 2026-11-16: Deadline for follow-up reports

Procedures

Please note the following guidelines:

  • In the week after the QEP discussion period, the proposal authors are expected to write a short summary of the discussion that is suitable for use as a basis on which voting members make their decisions.
  • The proposal must be submitted as a QGIS Enhancement Proposal (QEP) issue in the QEP repo (tagged as Grant-2026). Following this approach will allow people to ask questions and provide public feedback on individual proposals.
  • New in 2026: The QEP discussion stage mirrors the contributor voting stage of general QEPs. However, the discussion period is time-bounded to two weeks to ensure a timely progress of the programme. If a valid vote is not achieved within the time frame, the decision remains at the discretion of the PSC.
  • Proposals must clearly define the expected final result, so that we can properly assess if the goal of the proposal has been reached.
  • The project budgets should account for PR reviewing expenses to ensure timely handling of the project-related PRs and avoid delays caused by relying on reviewer volunteer time.

The PSC of QGIS.ORG will examine the proposals, and has a veto power in case a proposal does not follow guidelines or is not in line with project priorities.

For more details, please read the introduction provided in the application form.

We look forward to seeing all your great ideas for improving QGIS!
